Mains power versus batteries. One of my most frustrating
experiences has been when I was in the throws of having the
most wonderful orgasm when my vibrator died.
The batteries had knocked out and by the time I rummaged around for the
replacements my libido had plummeted. I learned many years ago from my friend,
lesbian performance artist and ex-porn star Annie Sprinkle, that mains power was the
way to go. I remember in the early 1990s when Annie asked me to stop at the local
pharmacy in Manly so that she could pick up her trusty magic wand vibrator.
To her dismay, I had to inform her that as progressive as we might be, California
and New York were able to cater to women's vibrating needs better than ours. In later
masturbation workshops I ran for women, I sold big Breville and Remington plug in
massagers. Their full-on sensation always did the job but their sound was reminiscent of
a lawn mower -- and the sensation was like a Mack truck gone wild.
For years I searched for a good plug-in to sell to my loyal customers at The
Pleasure Spot and every time I found one it was taken off the market.
I have finally found the Rolls Royce model of all mains-powered vibrators. The
Eroscillator by Dr Ruth Westhemer. Dr Ruth is a sex therapist based in New York City.
She was so committed to women's sexual pleasure that she spent seven years and US$2
million on research to come up with a motor that quietly whirrs instead of pounding.
Designed in Switzerland, The Eroscillator is by far the most expensive vibrator on
the market, retailing at AUD$310. But there are reasons for the expense. Its
interchangeable heads are designed to stimulate the clitoris or G-Spot, and it is easy
to use by yourself or with your partner.
As the website explains, "The Eroscillator oscillates up to 60 times per second,
providing a totally unique, gentle motion which moves naturally and softly from side to
side rather than up and down like an ordinary vibrator. The sensation is radically
different. More erotic. More sensual. Like a loving finger."
The plethora of testimonials on the web was enough encouragement for me to
import it from Switzerland so that Australian women could experience this product
designed exclusively for sexual excitement of the female genitalia via oscillation rather
In doing my research I recently sold one to a discerning customer who complained
that the battery vibrators she had previously used didn't have the power she desired,
while the back massagers were too intense. She said that after using the Eroscillator,
it not only gave her sufficient zing, but the subtlety of vibration allowed her to
unexpectedly experience multiple orgasms.
