Home' LOTL : July 2004 Contents Renae Stanton (pictured) is everywhere this month.
Known for her broad range of house music -- punchy,
funky and progressive house to cruisy latin and jazz
influenced house -- Renae knows how to bring a girl to her
feet. She is a favourite at Candy Lips parties and she has
several regular residencies around town.
You can catch her at The Lord Roberts Hotel Fridays where
she has played for the past three years. "It's my favourite cocktail
bar and I play cruisy beats and summer sounds spliced with
soulful house." You can also catch her at Smooch, outside on
the rooftop at the trendy East Village Hotel, but she raves about
her set at The Civic Hotel every Saturday from 11pm-1am. "I
get the pleasure of playing in (arguably) the best room in
Sydney. I love it here, the sound system is amazing and the
mixed crowd is so easygoing. Here I play punchy, funky house
packed with familiar tunes."
Renae also features on BeatFM 876 for Monkey Business on
Mondays. "We decided to call it Monkey Business because I
reckon only a monkey would choose to do a radio show on a
Monday after DJing all weekend. I host my own show from
2--4pm. The purpose is just to play great music -- a mix of old
school tunes, and the latest tracks I love."
But she's obviously not busy enough because she's taken on
a new gig -- Moist at Arq. "This is Sydney's new six weekly night
dedicated to us girls! It'll be the first time DJ Sister P and I get
to rock it together, an opportunity we have both been looking
for ward to for some time. Opening night will see upstairs
bouncing. In terms of music style I plan to do what I do best
and that's take it as it comes. I'll bring much more music than I
need so I can let the dancefloor guide me in the direction we
need to go. Generally though, I'm thinking phat, punchy beats
that make your body move involuntarily, a few noice soulful

vocals, percussive beats and lots of funky basslines and, of
course, my trademark old school flava intertwined so we can
sing along a bit."
Moist at Arq will be upstairs, so there's more room to move
for the well-connected girl, and plenty of places to play if you
have hooked up with a honey. Sexy Galexy is juicing up for the
event. "Opening night on July 9 is also the official launch of
The L Word album and it will be hot! It would be great to see
all the girls dress up and really make an effort. It would be nice
to see some uniforms as well," says Lexy who is a favourite
contender for Pride Week's sexiest Sydney lesbian. Famed for
her performances at The Sly Fox's Kingki Kingdom, Lexy will
lead the entertainment which includes Rocco D'Amore and
luminaries of the lesbian dance community.
To thoroughly lubricate the evening there will be shows at
11.30pm, 12.30am and 1.30am, and lots of drinks specials to
keep you, well, Moist.
