Home' LOTL : July 2013 Contents ove over Bieber, rack off One Direction and make way for Nemdara !
If you were to fuse One Direction and a travel-hungry lesbian couple
together in some sort of unholy union you would get Nemdara. Nemara
and Dara, collectively known as Nemdara, are two intrepid ladies currently
on a whirlwind adventure of epic proportions.
Living a perfect life by the beach in Sydney, Nemara was running a
Hawaiian massage business and Dara was a freelance brand strategist. That’s
what they were doing - yet how they were feeling was another story. The duo
was uninspired, under whelmed and restless. All it took was a snap decision
one day on their little balcony in a conversation that was no more than ten
minutes long. In that moment a world of opportunity opened up for them.
Four months later they were on a plane to Hawaii with a backpack, some
camera equipment, no expectations and the songbook to freedom.
Nemdara set off on their excellent adventure, surfing the spontaneous
vibe that had carried them to that first flight to Hawaii They deliberately
chose to travel ‘plan–less’.
It was this attitude of no expectations or plans
that led to Dara living out her dream.
Since the age of twelve, Dara had always wanted to be in a boyband which
led to an obsession to make it happen. They were on the beautiful island of
Gozo, a small island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.
Part of their daily routine was passing by a very eye-catching motorcycle
in the street – it reminded them of the opening scene in a One Direction
video. A kernel formed in their creative minds. The girls decided that
instead of making the obligator y slideshow of happy snaps to show family
and friends upon their return they would create a choreographed music
video showing all the great locations in the background. They had so much
fun creating it they decided not to stop at one and to continue the idea in
Santorini with a Justin Bieber song. This time however Dara lifted the game
by rewriting the song , singing it and recording it.
“ The thing we love about travelling and making music videos is that it
brings so much joy to the people involved. Really – the look on the faces
of people when we ask them to take part, or to even just watch us making
fools of ourselves – it’s just priceless. The key is to not take ourselves too
seriously and ever yone follows. Our backup dancers for the Santorini music
video were so excited to take part that they spent ages choosing their outfits
and even did Justin Bieber research to be prepared! Really – boybands just
bring the love!”
The burning question now is what will be the next song they tackle.
Dara enthuses, “The most infamous member of the greatest boyband of
all time – Robbie Williams – is our next target. His song , ‘Candy’ is our
muse. Actually, we spent a whole day in Berlin’s underground vintage shops
looking for the perfect pink jacket to match Robbie’s film clip. It’s great to
be in a new city and to have a costume mission like that. We got to dive into
parts of Berlin that we would never have discovered - and we manifested the
all important pink jacket.”
In between making boy band video clips that would make all the girls
scream and exploring far flung corners of the globe the girls have also
launched a new business www.theportl.com and a website tracking their
Nemdara truly are on top of the world with nothing but their laptop,
camera, each other and the road ahead. As a ver y famous boyband once said
“All you need is love” .
Nemdara have set up a blog at lotl.com where you can view all their boy
band video clips and laugh along with them via the blog as you follow their
footsteps across the globe.
