Home' LOTL : October 2004 Contents EDITOR'S LETTER
October is my favourite month: beautiful spring weather,
Sleaze Ball long weekend, my birthday ... all birthday
wishes gratefully accepted as I enter the last year of my dirty
thirties! But on a more serious note: our federal election is on
October 9 (ironically, International Lesbian Day) and I would
like to urge all LOTL readers to think very carefully about the last
few years and the trials and tribulations our major parties have
caused us during this time -- especially this year. If you are a
lesbian mum, co-parent, or long-term couple you may be feeling
particularly betrayed. Now's the time to fight back by casting
your votes wisely. As the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby
suggests, this may be the most important election ever for our
community. It's certainly one in which we have become
inextricably linked to vital national and global issues. And in
case you hadn't noticed, there's a little more to LOTL this month
-- 8 pages extra of juicy editorial to hold between your fingers,
including an up close and personal with the wonderful k.d.
lang. Spring indeed has arrived!

lesbianism is still used to disadvantage female
criminals and portray them as monsters."

young thang Missy Higgins.
