Pink - The Truth About Love
this month and
our attention with
the rockin’ single
‘Blow Me’ (One
Last Kiss) co-
written with producer Greg Kursten (Lily
Allen, Foster the People). Anyone thinking
that motherhood may have mellowed Pink
would be mistaken as the Truth About Love
dishes up one standout track after another
and sees Pink collaborating with the likes of
Eminem and Lily Allen.
Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough
UK folk singer
Lianne La Havas
follows up her
with this full
length release that
dishes up heartfelt
loves songs and
the occasional lush orchestral piece. All the
while La Havas’ vocals deliver a sense of
intimacy that seems to immediately connect
the listener to her lyrics as though by an
invisible wire. Standout tracks include ‘They
Could Be Wrong’ and ‘Everything, Everything’.
Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions Volume 2
Way back in 2003
a teenage Joss
Stone burst on
the scene with
the first volume
of tracks from the
herself to be in possession of one of the
blues-iest growls east of the Mississippi.
Now almost a decade later, Stone
returns with a new selection of tracks.
The crooning voice is much the same,
serving up a cigarette tinged howl that
alternately soothes and incites the listener.
Her version of ‘Teardrops’ is sublime and
she more than handles the Broken Bells
classic, the ‘High Road’.

BABY ET LULU
Two of Australia’s best loved musicians, Abby
Dobson (Leonardo’s Bride) and Lara Goodridge
(FourPlay) have joined forces to collaborate as a
French language duo, Baby et Lulu.
After playing a series of sell out shows around
the country, the girls have released a self-titled
album that’s already made it to number one on
the iTunes jazz charts. From romantic songs
about strolling along the Champs Élysées and
a much loved Cole Porter jazz standard, to
tracks made famous by cultural icons Edith
Piaf, Brigitte Bardot and Françoise Hardy –
Baby et Lulu have delivered a passionate
tour de force of French music. There’s even a
French language rendition of the platinum-
selling ‘Even When I’m Sleeping’, originally
sung by Abby in Leonardo’s Bride.
Lucky Sydneysiders can catch the
duo live on September 8 at Camelot
Lounge in Marrickville.

and Mahalia’s favourite song s, hidden g ems from
the soul era covering ever ything from Aretha

Prinnie and Mahalia have been friends for over
12 years, meeting in their late te ens through their
love of music, growing up and honing their talent
in Sydney ’s urban music crowd jamming and
performing tog ether, a musical connection that
would turn into a lifelong friendship.
Prinnie and Mahalia have both been heavily
influenced by soul and R ‘n’ B throughout their
careers and name Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder
and Donny Hathaway as some of their biggest
inspirations. They describe their styles today
as ver y different; a fork in the musical road saw
Prinnie more heavily involved in pop and hip-
hop, while Mahalia de veloped her own unique
take on the soul genre and they wanted Come
To g e t h e r to reflect and celebrate those differences.
