Lesbians in the House
To the organisers and performers of Lesbians in the
THANK YOU for such an amazing (if some-
what long ) journe y. A case of What We Were Like,
What We are Like Now and more importantly,
What We Will be Like in the Future.
Now 60 and officially a senior, I found the first
half somewhat dagg y but it hit all the nostalgic but-
tons, Judy Small is still a g em and in fine voice. Sad
and shocking to see the names of my tribe who have
died and finding out about deaths I didn’t know
about. Meeting compatriots I had be en politically
active with over so many years was wonderful - a les-
bian school reunion!
Lesbian Logies and recognition of certain women
is a great idea and why not an annual event, but with
the community putting up nominations and deciding.
Only award missing was for all those wonderful
and healthy sporty dykes who continue to break
barriers in the ver y male (gay and straight) spor ts
world (but still being a sporty dyke I am biased)!
However it was the second half that did it for
me. Where did all those amazing (young ), talent-
ed and powerful performers spring from? Their
sheer talent and energ y had me jumping out of
my skin. Bluehouse amazing as always.
Far from our community dying out as we all
age, I came away with a strong and optimistic
sense that the future is strong. Different to
what it was in the 70-90s but that is how it
Our work then has not been in vain.

I must say I was initially confused when I picked
up my copy of last month’s mag azine and found
so much of it was de voted to the Lesbians in the
House event but upon further reading I realised
that LOTL was sponsoring this g reat performance
night at the Opera House. While the list of per-
formers may not have been my cup of tea, it did
spur me to g o on and org anise a group of friends
to make a night of it at the Opera House. For how
often can you say that the Lesbians have taken over
such a wonderful venue ?
There was certainly a wonderful fe eling in the
venue on the night and I was surprised, as were my
friends, by how emotional the experience of attend-
ing the event was for us.
Congratulations LOTL and the women from
Creative Womyn Down Under for org anising an
event of such solidarity and celebration of women.
