Friends of Leon gallery in Sydney's Surry
Hills will present an exhibition of Swedish
artist Anneli Olander's work this month.
Cited as one of the top 100 illustrators in
the world, Olander's whimsical works have
graced the pages of fashion mags, books
and clothing lines and now Sydneysiders
will get the opportunity to glimpse her work
in this exhibition entitled Girls and Ghosts.
According to Anneli Girls and Ghosts deals
with the beauty of the imperfect. Check it out
from May 5-28.
Pekka Kuusisto & Iiro Rantala
Out of Finland and straight to you! Meet the classical violin
and jazz piano duo of our decade when Pekka Kuusisto &
Iiro Rantala make their way to the Brisbane Powerhouse for
one night only, Thursday May 5 as part of the Planet series.
These two internationally renowned virtuosi will put a tango
re in your heart with their charming wit and cheek. World
class musicians, they have both widely traversed the globe
during their separate, illustrious careers and have individually
toured Australia many times --Pekka with various orchestras
(SSO, MSO, ACO and more) and Iiro with his former Trio
Töykeät. Both musicians constantly seek new ground for
expression and their duo collaboration submerges into the
world of tango by means familiar from the heyday of jazz.
Head On Photo Festival
Sydney's internationally acclaimed annual Head On
Photo Festival will run from May 5 -- June 11. The
vibrant and exciting program for 2011 will feature
outstanding work from across Australia and abroad
showcasing a wide range of photographic styles
from the traditional through to digital multimedia
and installation projects. There will be exhibitions
and events at over 70 venues including Sydney's
major museums, regional and commercial galleries
along with libraries, universities, arts schools,
restaurants, cafes, pubs, shop-fronts, office
buildings and parks.

PACT centre for emerging artists presents the fourth
annual Tiny Stadiums Festival in Erskineville, Sydney, this
month. Curated by resident artist run initiative Quarterbred
it delivers two weeks of free and ticketed events, the
public is invited to experience stirring contemporary art by
some of Australia's nest emerging artists, culminating in
a free weekend of live art from May 14-15.
Tiny Stadiums aims to lure the curious and delight those
who intentionally (or unintentionally!) stumble upon
them throughout the streets, shops, pubs and parks that
make up Erskineville. This year, Tiny Stadiums presents a
selection of provocative and exciting projects that consider
art and its social relationship to public space.
The race is on again to nd the nation's Burlesque Queen.
Miss Burlesque Australia is about to kick off State Heats
for the competition around the country including NSW,
VIC, QLD, WA, TAS, SA and an additional Gold Coast heat
- starting in May!!!
Each State will see 10 nalists compete for their local
title, and the winners own to Sydney for the Grand Final
at Enmore Theatre in Sydney in June. Jac Bowie and
Cameron Knight will host the shenanigans. So get along
and cheer on your favourite as they bump and grind their
