Ohwhat a night
Sometime between planning for her fiftieth birthday party and
the actual event, Amanda Culver and her partner Sheila Coupe
decided to get married. In a surprise twist ,the pair decided to hold a joint
wedding/birthday party... This is their story...
he planning for my 50th
birthday party had been
going smoothly. So with a few
loose ends to tie up, a few of
which involved by chance, my partner ’s parents,
brother and family coming over for a holiday
from the UK , we could now finally start the rest
of the planning for our other special day... our
wedding. Eighteen months does seem to be an
extraordinarily long time to org anise a par ty, so
let’s just fast for ward to the event.
We arrive to the restaurant excited, it is a warm
evening . Not only did guests arrive on time but
many started arriving early, so I greeted as many
guests as I could as the canapés beg an to flow....
Such a g ood feeling . Phew, nothing could go
After greeting as many guests as I could possibly
muster, we were al l escorted by the wonderful
restaurant staff to our seats. The room was buzzing.
Entrees were consumed and Marie, the restaurateur
announced that another slideshow would begin –
this time it was imag es of my partner and me –
all 26 years of us being together. Lots of oohing
and aaghing from our friends and family as our
life rolled past to a soundtrack of sweet song s.
As the song ‘Somewhere’ by Nor wegian singer
Sissel played out, I pulled out a few of the lyrics
onto the PowerPoint display... There’s a place
for us ....There’s a time for us.... Somewhere ....
Someday.... We’ll find a way of forgiving.
Towards the end of this song , we both stood
up, held hands and walked to the front and
right at the crescendo of the music, the
slide announced we were getting married - right
then and there. The whole of the restaurant
er upted with screams, clapping , cr ying and pure
happiness. It was the most extraordinar y and
blessed moment I think we have ever and will
As the crowd of ninety continued to clap and
cr y and hug us, we star ted the ceremony, which
included all the thing s we wanted to say. I can
only describe this as a most wonderful evening
that culminated in me marr ying the woman I
love and have loved for 26 years – and still want
to spend ever y day of my life with.
Like an ornate fascinator the day after Melbourne Cup
or a brand new hair style after the first wash – the
magic of a wedding dress lasts just one day for every
bride. The bride’s dress is the focal point of every
wedding, but after you’ve said, “I do”, the cake has
been cut and the waltz has been danced; your dream
dress is inevitably destined to wilt, taking up vital
space in your wardrobe for the next twenty years.
A practical, smart and green alternative is Savvy
Brides. A brand new bridal consignment concept
that specialises in buying and selling pre-loved
designer gowns - www.savvybrides.com.au
Savvy Brides is a twofold solution for both recent
brides and brides-to-be; a smart option for women
who would love a designer wedding dress but can’t
justify the excessive price tag and a clever little
earner for newlyweds who realise that they will
never wear their dress again.
Newlywed and Director of Savvy Brides, Mandy
Daddia said: “As a bride-to-be I was adamant that
I would purchase a pre-loved dress but I ended
up on a wild goose chase trying on dresses in random
locations all over Sydney. I eventually had to give up on
the idea, and decided that I should create a convenient
service for brides and brides-to-be to buy and sell pre-
loved wedding dresses – and so Savvy Brides was born!”
Only chic pieces from respected local and international
designers in excellent condition are offered through
the service. All of the pre-loved wedding dresses
are meticulously checked by the Savvy Brides team,
assuring future brides a perfect dress. Wedding
dresses from Savvy Brides have only been worn
once before - the wedding day - and in some cases,
have never been worn. The collection ranges from
Australian sizes 6 to 16.
So whether you’re looking to find that dream dress,
or are interested in selling your recently worn gown
to the next lucky owner, Savvy Brides is the answer.
