Sarah McLachlan may have been on
hiatus with her musical career for the last few
years, but the singer songwriter is back with a
vengeance in 2010 with a critically acclaimed
album to her name and the return of Lilith, the all girl
rock festival she helped to co-found so many years
ago.So what spurred the musician's return to
music -- the answer is as simple as "it being
time". According to Sarah, she felt as though
she finally "had something to write about"
and once the creative juices started flowing,
the singer had a new album, Laws of Illusions
for her efforts.
Having just completed a summer tour of the
US and wrapped it up with the Lilith shows,
you'd think McLachlan would be ready for a
rest, instead the singer is Australia bound to
present the inaugural Australian version of
Lilith the 'Taste of Lilith' festival.
While not as large as its US counterpart,
what the Aussie version does offer is the
chance for punters to see some of the world's
best female musos up close and personal in in-
timate venues like The Enmore in Sydney and
The Palais in Melbourne.
McLachlan and her partners in crime have
assembled a great line-up for Australia that
includes not only McLachlan but the Court
Yard Hounds (Emily and Marty from the Dix-
ie Chicks) and Aussie songbird Kate Miller
Heidke who cut her teeth at the US Lilith
shows earlier this year. "She was fantastic" of-
Meanwhile, McLachlan admits she is look-
ing forward to the trip downunder: "Australia
is one of my favourite places -- I don't need
much of an excuse to go there" she enthuses.
This time around though, the singer will have
her two young children in tow. While ob-
ligatory trips to the koala park are in store,
McLachlan admits she hopes to get some time
in surfing the East Coast before her children
arrive. "I can't do it when the kids are here it's
too selfish...so I'll get in some beach time be-
fore they land."
As for the shows, she says they will provide
"a little taste of everything", certainly fans
can expect to hear tracks from the new album
She described the process of both writing
and performing the songs from Laws of Illusion
as "cathartic". "I had a lot going on in my life to
provide inspiration". As for the tour she's look-
ing forward to hitting the stage with a talented
bunch of singers. "Court Yard Hounds are fan-
tastic -- Emily and Marty are fantastic women --
really talented, Verses is great and Kate Miller
Heidke -- is fantastic as well."
So how did she settle on the line-up for the
inaugural Lilith Australian outing ?
"To be honest we talked through a lot with
the promoters about what would be good 'cause
we're not that familiar with Australian acts -- but
we all put our wish list together and started making
phone calls and juggling -- 'cause everyone has their
own schedules. at's one of the biggest headaches
-trying to create a great line-up for every show."
