anything else that has the same reputation, that
the girls trust in to keep delivering, and this has
certainly helped us deliver our constant changes
and growth with the lesbian community nation-
ally. I think it's hard to sustain any business in a
community of such small numbers -- so we have
really supported each other over the past ve
years in keeping both a oat. A er all, LOTL
is the lesbian bible that Bitch has stamped its
brand through and the B!tch brand's presence
can certainly be felt. Schembri admits to feeling
"blessed" that B!tch has such a huge impact on
the local, national and now, international, girl
scene. "To take it overseas and interstate makes it
so mainstream and exposed, and equal within the
bigger picture of club culture in Australia. I think
it's shown that anything is possible. We may be a
minority in numbers, but we certainly can make
"Who would have imagined this little club
night that started at Deck Bar ve years ago
would be producing parties in London and mak-
ing a name across the UK! It's given us an open-
ing and made the girls stand up and be noticed in
the gay scene that I believe was very dominated by
boys for a long time. It's also given us the opportu-
nity to pro le some amazing acts, and see the rise
of up and coming talent."
With that in mind, what does Schembri have
in store for the h birthday celebrations?
"It's honestly shaping up to be our biggest par-
ty yet," says Renee. " e theme is the PlayBitch
Mansion.. And we ask you all to dress up in theme
- sexy out ts, nightwear, whether you're a play-
bitch bunny, or a Hugh Hefner -all are welcome !!
e Playboy Mansion is known for nights of de-
bauchery, slick crowd, and most importantly sexy
girls in every corner of the room! We are dressing
the venue in full theme, chandelier projections,
pole dancers, lap dancers, lingerie hosts, red car-
pet arrival, private booths and a Dirty Martini
bar. ere'll be dancers, all your fave DJs, live mu-
sicians, coming together for a 10 minute produc-
tion show that pays tribute to the last ve years
of dance. ink Lady Gaga, Justin, MJ, Pink and
you will start to get a taste of what's in store.
" ere is so much being packed into this one
night -- it's guaranteed to blow your mind. And
don't forget, what happens at the mansion, stays
at the mansion," she laughs.
No doubt there will be plenty of hook ups on
the dance oor... Renee laughingly agrees: " ere
have been a lot of hook ups, countless make ups,
and break ups... It's funny how many girls will
come up and say 'I met my rst girlfriend back at
Deck Bar', or 'Do you know that B!tch is where
we met, and we are still together now'. We had a
proposal happen in there once at Mars Lounge...
But really -- it's been the meeting place that's con-
nected so many girls."
Schembri believes that a visit to B!tch is es-
sential for any lesbian coming out on the scene...
"You can't say you're a real lesbian without at
least one B!tch session up your sleeves." Adding:
"It's your own little world in there, anyone com-
ing out needs to check it out.. Don't worry -- we
promise to be gentle." (evil laugh).
The entrepreneurial Schembri still has big
plans for her brand. "This is a massive turning
point for us -- it's half a decade -- it's time to
zone in on the evolution of our crowd, with-
out losing our brand essence. We have our
sights set on LA next year, and are already
chatting with the Dinah women about doing
something very special for 2011 !!
Meanwhile we want to roll with the times and
keep delivering nights that keep our scene alive."
PlayB!tch Mansion is on Friday July 2nd at
