So you're tired of doing the rounds on Matchmaker and the idea of
speeddating makes you cringe -- what if you could take the stress out of
the dating game and hook up with like-minded ladies for a dinner date
or two? Enter stage left -- Dinner With Who: an exciting new service that will
see you wining and dining your way around town.
The brains behind Dinner With Who is Sarah Dauphinee. Canadian born
Dauphinee came to Sydney in 2000 and made the switch from the finance
sector to internet marketing not long after she and her partner had their first
child. Her first project was a parenting eBook but not long after, Dauphinee
cooked up an idea to service her twin passions of our community and fine
dining. Says Dauphinee: "I decided to entertain this idea a few months ago al-
though it has been at the back of my mind for some time." Sarah says she was
inspired to create the service because she wanted to "do something unique
for the lesbian community." She explains: "When I came to Sydney in 2000
I found it hard to meet other lesbians, even for friendship. I now feel very
established here in Sydney but it took some effort - I put an advertisement in
LOTL, joined sporting teams and really took some strides to get to this point.
If Dinner With Who was around I would have found it a fast and effective
way to meet women."
Dauphinee continues: "Dinner With Who came from listening to com-
plaints from friends that it was so hard to meet women outside the bar scene. I
think you get to a stage where going out every weekend just doesn’t cut it. It’s
hard to meet someone and have a conversation in the middle of a dance club.
I’ve created this service for women who need someone else to do the hard
work for them. For women who want to meet new women but not necessarily
take the first step or have to do a one on one meeting.”
With so many people looking for new ways to connect, Dauphinee be-
lieves Dinner With Who will have mass appeal in the lesbian community. "I
think it will appeal to a range of women: the new-to-Sydney girls who really
need an avenue to make some friends fast; late bloomers and women coming
out that just don’t know where to get started; couples that want to meet other
couples for friendship; singles that have not been able to meet other women in
bars, clubs and at dance parties; and women with children who feel they need
some friends with kids to hang out with. I think it will appeal to any woman
who wants to meet others while in a safe and comfortable environment."
So how does it all work?
According to Dauphinee it is simple. "You basically become a member by
visiting the website and signing up with your name and email address. You
then receive a welcome email with a profile to fill out (one for singles, one for
couples). Once your profile is complete you can then start receiving dinner
invitations to exclusive dinner dates with a group of women who match your
profile. Once you see an invitation that interests you, you accept and pay a
So does she see herself as a modern day matchmaker?
"Absolutely! We do the work for the busy girl and send you on amazing
dates or dinners with women you would never normally get to meet. This is a
non-threatening, non-intimidating way to meet women that could be your life
long friends or the woman of your dreams."
