Home' LOTL : August 2006 Contents It was 1989 – the year my first marriage
partner/best friend shook the foundations of
my life by taking her own. It was about the time
when if you weren’t in a twelve-step program
of some denomination, there was something
wrong with you. Thankfully I also had my
knowledge of astrology and all things esoteric
and spiritual to keep my chin up.
I learnt to believe there was a reason for
everything that occurred and nothing really
happened by chance – it was meant to be
– okay! No matter what the situation, it was
always about choice, either on a conscious or
unconscious level. These philosophies were
quite easily taken on board from a cognitive
level (my Aquarian Sun), but far less easy
to digest emotionally (my Scorpio Ascendant
didn’t want to wear it!).
During much of the 80’s/90’s, when I was
seeing clients for astrology, tarot, or psychic
readings from home base, I happened to run
into Frances Rand, the original editor/founder
of Lesbians on the Loose… (the goddesses
were looking after me!). As I also have the title
of writer under my belt, when Frances told me
of her idea for a decent lesbian magazine, I
decided to jump at the chance of becoming the
LOTL resident astrologer. And so the ‘Stars’
column was born. The rest is herstory.
Currently my profession consists of feature
writing for print media, radio announcing
(specialising in live-to-air readings), and
delivering professional psychic readings
to clients – mainly via email or chat (very
much a sign of the ‘noughties’ times).
I use a combination of astrology (for the
scientific/Jungian psychological angle), tarot
(for the specifics of the indications I see),
and clairvoyance (a gift that ties everything
together). I also use some numerology,
spiritual transformation, Feng Shui and other
metaphysical tit-bits where necessary.
My client list is flooded with dykes, but
astrology doesn’t discriminate (and neither
do I!) It is something that women from all
persuasions tend to touch on at some time
in their lives. And the reason for any woman
having a reading can be as varied as the type of
women who require my services – most need
objective guidance, plenty come to me when in
crisis, others are simply curious.
Seeing a professional psychic for a reading in
this day and age is akin to seeing a counsellor.
I have found my work is capable of breaking
through issues that years of therapy (no affront
to capable therapists) may not even touch on!
(Warning: there are cowgirls in every profession
– so choose your psychic carefully).
This is the Age of Aquarius (go sister
Aquarians!), so taking responsibility for who
