It’s Thelma and Louise circa 1000AD, says thespian
Tanya Denny of her latest stage venture, Silence by
Moira Buffini. Denny describes the narrative as a
fractured fairytale crossed with a medieval road trip.
“It’s just delicious”. The play experiments with the
themes of queer love, the pursuit of freedom, sex, and
desire. As a director, Denny recently returned from a
theatrical stint in Italy and is committed to finding the
most exciting way to communicate a story live to an
audience. “I want them to leave thinking about every
image they’ve seen, all the tender moments…” And in
Silence there’s plenty to contemplate. “Oh, and the girls
in the two leads are gorgeous,” Denny enthuses.
Silence plays from May 4 at Belvoir Street Theatre Surry
