We like our cover girls with attitude, and
someone with plenty of it is P!nk. Why is she
a great LOTL cover girl? She visits Australia
this month for the fourth time and we have
a few things in common. She likes girls (she
has been spied giving a lap dance to her
openly lesbian assistant, and locking lips with Terminator 3 star Kristanna Loken).
She loves the Indigo Girls (they sing backup on her new album). She abhors animal
cruelty: the anti-fur P!nk has launched a petition urging KFC to ensure that the 850
million birds killed for its finger lickin’ boxes and buckets each year aren’t abused
in the factory farms and slaughterhouses of its suppliers. And in a revolt against the
media proliferation of dumb female stereotypes desperately seeking sexy/cool by
teetering around with “the latest $10,000 handbag” P!nk has a message for other
young women, asserting that “you can have braces and play the trumpet” and still
be cool. Perhaps you’ve seen her latest pop video “Stupid Girls”. Maybe she can
have a guest spot on The L Word and inject a dose of Grrrl-power?
Have fun this month.
Rachael Oakes-Ash is a well-known, award winning
author, humourist, documentary maker, columnist and
travel writer who is fast becoming LOTL’s preferred ski
correspondent. This month she writes from Japan, an
unlikely lesbian ski destination.
Fiora Sacco is a professional photographer based in
Sydney who has been shooting for LOTL since 2000.
She is particularly pleased to capture lesbians in action
(LOTL ran her pictorial of the 2002 Gay Games).
This month she shares her visual impressions of the
fun in the sun had at Dinah Shore Weekend, Palm
Cath Pope is a Melbourne-based journalist and writer
with a tonne of experience behind her. Her work has
been widely published in Australia and internationally and
when not on the trail for LOTL she is most likely on the
search for a decent wave.
