Home' LOTL : August 2005 Contents My Summer Of Love
Helen Cross $21.95
A dark and seductive story of an eventful
relationship between two young women in
Yorkshire in the hot summer of 1984. Mona and
Tamsin come from very different backgrounds,
but both are seeking solace from difficult
families, and find comfort in each other. Both the movie and
book have won awards!
Jane Vollbrecht $24.95
Romance between Kate, an accountant with a
broken heart, and Casey who is dealing with
ageing parents and dementia. Well written and
touching story obviously informed by the
author's sadness re her own ageing parents. First
novel from a promising new lesbian writer.
On The Wings Of Love
Megan Carter $24.95
Stacie is an up and coming journalist on a small
newspaper, and on her way to success.
Unfortunately her run of good fortune ends, and
she is given a warning: get an interview with
best-selling romance author Cheryl Wright -- or
else! She blows the interview, and soon finds her
life, both personal and professional, going out of control.
Another first-time author with an entertaining style.
Jeanette Winterson $22.95
A new edition of Winterson's latest book, about
motherless Silver and her sojourn in a remote
lighthouse with blind Mr Pew. A poetic story of
love, loss and longing. I am including it here for
its gorgeous new cover, and for some most
interesting additions of an interview with the
author, a list of her Ten Top Reads, and a short article by her on
the writing of Lighthousekeeping. Definitely good value with all
Stacia Seaman & Nann Dunne eds $32.95
A new anthology of lesbian erotic fiction from a
wide selection of known and new lesbian writers.
In the introduction the prolific Radclyffe asks,
"What is erotica?" She answers, "An art form
intended to arouse."
This wide selection certainly does that. Not a book to be read at
one sitting, but many erotic bedtime stories!
Beyond The Breakwater
More shenanigans from lesbian holiday town
Provincetown, as Sheriff Reese Conlon and her
lovely partner Dr Tory King face life together.
Their relationship is challenged by Tory's
pregnancy, and also when beautiful Brianna
arrives to join the Sheriff's department. Romance and mystery
all rolled into one, as the summer becomes a time of
transformation for the three women.
All The Bold Days Of
My Restless Life
Sharon Stone $27.95
A fun look into the world of daytime soap, as
Bailey, head writer on All The Bold Days, is
dumped by her girlfriend, has to kill off her main
character, and endures some disastrous blind
dates. Her own out-of-control life feels like something from a
soap opera. On top of all that it's a week before Christmas. Just a
few days in the life of your average lesbian in the Big Apple!
Judith Butler $37.00
Judith Butler was recently in Sydney. Her new
book includes reflections on gender and
sexuality, psychoanalysis, the new kinship,
transgender, and the huge task of social
transformation. She makes welcome links
between feminist and queer theory.
