Many a lesbian is familiar with
the pleasures of oral sex, a
somewhat clinical term for a
very pleasurable sexual
technique. While kissing could
be considered a form of oral
sex, cunnilingus specifically
applies to oral stimulation of the
clitoris and vulva using the
tongue and lips.
According to Australian sex
writer Tracy Cox, author of Hot
Sex, 75%-96% of women asked
said it was their favourite sexual
activity and a form of sexual
stimulation they want more of.
Why might this be? The clitoris
contains more than 8000 nerve endings!
Many women are able to easily orgasm
from oral stimulation. Cunnilingus can be
both the appetiser and main course.
Many women find performing cunnilingus
on their sexual partner extremely arousing.
A common myth...
Many women, including lesbians, feel too
self-conscious to receive oral pleasure due
to the widely believed myth that the vagina
tastes/smells like fish.
A woman's "flavour" is generally slightly
sweet, pungent and musky. If the pH of the
vagina is out of balance this will affect a
Food and drink can affect how a woman
tastes and if you are going on an all
important sex date you may wish to avoid
coffee, beer, garlic, and spicy foods and for
some women, fish!
• Classic...on her back
• Sitting on your face
• Sideways, using the woman's thigh as a
pillow -- great for pregnant women.
• From behind -- great for access and
Cunnilingus is considered safer than
unprotected vaginal or anal penetration,
however it still poses a risk particularly if
your partner has an undiagnosed STI. If a
woman is menstruating this risk increases
particularly if you have cuts or sores in or
around the mouth.
Communicate with your partner to assess
the risk. Use a barrier such as latex dams if
you or she has multiple partners or think it
may be necessary. Use lube underneath the
dam for greater sensation.
Remember, sex is all about fun and
pleasure so have a great time playing! e
10 CUNNILINGUS TIPS
Ask your sex partner what kind of oral
stimulation she likes.
Make sure you are in a comfortable
position and remember to breathe.
Don't rush...enjoy yourself and her
Start with light pressure and use lots
of saliva to keep the area lubricated or
use a tasteless lubricant such as
Probe. The clitoris is extremely
sensitive. Check with her to see what
pressure she likes.
Begin with licking the inner and outer
labia -- experiment with different
strokes and see what she responds to
-- then move to the clit hood. Often a
side-to-side tongue movement is the
most effective...be creative with
different strokes and combinations.
The secret is to find what she likes
and focus consistently and
rhythmically on that movement.
Often a woman will guide you with
her hands on your shoulders or
You will know she is about to orgasm
by her breathing, her body tensing.
She may buck or grind her pelvis and
the clitoris may retract towards the
pelvic bone explaining why she may
like more pressure.
Some women like stimulation right up
to orgasm, and then stop...others
might like it to go on during and after
Often women enjoy penetration at the
same time as being stimulated orally.
This can be done with fingers, vibrator
or dildo...and often nipple stimulation
during oral sex feels fabulous.
