Home' LOTL : July 2005 Contents Your Say
Dear Evelyn Hartogh, I read your article in
LOTL [Doctor Out of the Closet, June] and
was wondering if you could tell me if Lust
in Space and The Curse of the Fatal Death
are available in Australia.
Loraine Branz, via email.
[Evelyn Hartogh responds: Yes, but they
are a little rare. I have previously borrowed
them from the video store and the City
Council Library. If you can't find them in
your local area, you can purchase new or
second hand copies online from
Amazon.co.uk. Meanwhile, you can see live
on stage former classic companion Katy
Manning (Jo Grant), Colin Baker (The
Sixth Doctor), and Sylvester McCoy (The
Seventh Doctor) in 'DR WHO -- Inside the
Tardis' which tours around Australia and
New Zealand 15 July to 4 August 2005.]
The mag is so looking the goods. Sexy
cover gal, heavier stock, more pages and of
course the usual articles and all the pics of
the girls out. Congratulations to all who
work on LOTL. Such an exciting read
Nat, via email.
Thanks for the article about Judith Butler
[Undoing Gender, June]. It's great to get
information about some academic events,
occasionally. I'd like to point out an error in
your description of Judith's work. She has
never described herself as post-feminist.
Her writing is based firmly on feminist
tenets. She is a post-structuralist. There is a
distinct difference between the two, even
though one does not preclude the other. I
hope you will correct this mistake in your
next issue. Carla Omiciuolo, via email.
RUBY REDS LICKS 'EM
The promoters of The Ruby Reds Tribute
night held in May have received such
fabulous feedback from those who came
along that we're hosting another fun night
for the gals. On Saturday, August 13 we're
going to bring you Lickalotapus (named
after the lesbian dinosaur species). Again at
Paddington RSL, you'll hear all the popular
music we've loved from the 70s onwards.
Since we attracted such a crowd last time,
the Club's even opening a second bar
upstairs for us! We'd really like to thank
everyone that came along to the Tribute
night too -- there was such a great vibe and
everywhere you looked, people were
smiling. Let's hope we can bring you an
even better night! Faye Raye will be
spinning the records again on the night.
Cass Daniels, Pip Playford and Randa
Magdi, via email.
LETTER OF THE MONTH
DYKE BAND FAN
Ah, Tribe 8, what a band. A five piece all
dyke punk/rock underground band. So few
people have heard of them. They sing a
selection of lesbian topical music touching
on feminism, dominance, pseudo butch
lesbians, gay boys, drugs, sexual abuse,
parental separation, ageism, jealousy, the
lot and they do it in such a cool way. These
issues have all been taken from just one
album, Fist City, it was released in 1995
and was at the stage, in my opinion, when
they had the best band members. There's
Lynn Lovebreed on vocals, Leslie Mah and
Lynn Flipper on electric guitar, Lynn Payne
on bass and Slade Bellum on drums.
They've only released one album in
Australia, Role Models for America, and
one is available via import, Fist City. Their
other productions would be available only
via the internet as they've all been deleted.
But they are great, a little full-on but Tribe
they might make a comeback.
Mary Copper, Airlie Beach NSW.
