WHO IS FRUIT?
3 singer songwriters who write and
perform original music. We tour
nationally and internationally and
have been doing so for 10 years.
We are on the road 9 or so months
a year, have recorded 8 albums, and
have 11 albums available on our
independent label. We each bring a musical
diversity to the group, and because of our
differences we have been able to create a
beautiful and unique sound; one that I, Mel,
feel very honoured to be a part of.
WHAT'S THE REALITY OF BEING
INDEPENDENT MUSIC ARTISTS?
Lots of hard work, and lots of wonderful
rewards. The peaks and valleys of being an
independent artist are huge, and the
challenge is to try and remain constant
within the demands of our industry and
YOU WERE VOTED BEST UP & COMING
LIVE ACT (2001) AND BEST LIVE ALBUM
(2003) AT THE AUSTRALIAN LIVE MUSIC
AWARDS. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING
We have spent 9 months in the US, touring
and making a new album with a wonderful
Philadelphia based producer David Ivory
and the experience was life
changing. We met David at
the end of 2003, worked
with him on one song, and
knew that this was
definitely the next big step
for us creatively. We sent
him over a whole bunch of
songs to listen to on mini
disk, in acoustic format. He
chose 20 to work on, we
headed over to freezing
Philly in January of 2004
and bunkered down for 4
months of intense pre-
production and recording.
We came out with our most defining work

ANY OTHER THINGS YOU HAVE IN
So much; we are all artists trying to make
a living from art in a way that has the least
amount of negative impact on our world. I
think we are all trying to make the world a
better place for anyone who wants to sit in
a peaceful groove.
