ACON (AIDS Council of NSW Inc) is a health promotion
organisation based in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender communities with a central focus on
HIV/AIDS. We provide education, health promotion,
care, support and advocacy services to members of
those communities, including Indigenous people and
injecting drug users, to sex workers, and to all people
living with HIV/AIDS
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Community Development Officer
Join our professional team in the Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander unit and we will give you flexibility and a
great working environment. ACON is seeking to appoint
a skilled and creative individual to work as the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community
Development Officer. The position has a primary
responsibility of providing services and programs
specifically targeted towards Aboriginal and Torres
Strait islander women, who are living with HIV/AIDS,
same sex attracted, engage in sex work or are injecting
drug users, to minimise the transmission of HIV and
other STI's and increase the level of service provisions,
education and capacity building.
The ideal applicant will have a demonstrated
understanding and sensitivity to issues facing Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
Demonstrated experience in health promotion, the
implementation and evaluation of adult education and
the ability to work collaboratively within the organisation
is also essential.
